We all know Girl Talk, after review and review of pure sunday dinner mash-up, this is more of an helping hand to those of you in the dark. Back from hiatus. Its been a week or so since the last post, but don't worry, you haven't missed that much. I took a quick trip back to the west coast to see some family and friends and i had a great time. But, i won't bore you with my own monologue, so let me make up and break in some beats and help you welcome in the warm summer weather with some tracks to define your summer. Didn't really think this one through, just what was in my head and on my pod, some are a little upbeat and some cry for indie emo mascara, but as they say...the punks jump up. Rewind selector...

Metro Station are a hometown group from Hollywood, adhereing to the synth indie rock genre that all of you with Ray Bans (Real or fake, mostly fake) have come to love and hate. The emo foundation in their music may give you dashboard chills, while the shiney toy guns beats makes you turn the notch to 11 (Spinal) This group is in good speed growing on me as well as on all those corba snake's alike. Product of South Carolina, but now bi-city Los Angeles and Stockholm based group is Carolina Liar. Don't really know too much of this band, read about them a couple times on the blogosphere and they popped up once or twince on twitter, but by my own opinion (if thats worth anything) they resemble a Killers in the Shsdowplay meets U2 with the E-Street Band coming up the rear. I may and do think that i am totally off though. Wish this recording was better, im still looking for higher quality, ill post an update when i find it. I like these guys a lot...so does Joe Escalante...

One of my deepest unfulfilled desires is to be a proto-punk G*D a la the rebirth Iggy made last summer with his collaborative project with the Teddy Bears (Punk-rocker) this what my goal...I'm still obsessed with "The Passenger...But something to maybe contrast the blue skies of summer with something just as intense, joy envoking and spirt lifting is something a little darker to set the a priori mood of these summer nights. London Dungeon by This Misfits always reminds me why i dance to Joy Division and have an eternal lingering in my bloood that once, just once i turn on the radio or show up at a bar and am blessed with Echo and The Bunnymen on the 1's and 2's. Does It Offend You, Yeah?...{Awkward Pause}...thats what i thought too the first time i heard of this band. The repeated thought of a presumptuous indie pop band hailing from the U.K. (or anywhere for that matter) trying to stand out in a crowd full of "The _ _ _ _" as the ubiquitous standard to create a unique band name. Has it finally gone to far? Apparently not... But aside from the constant tug of war i have with the gagillion new bands coming and going like simplex 2, like Herpes i don't see a cure or a treatment. So best is too protect ourselves from the myriad of new bands and let the poor weave their way through and pull out the junk that shouldn't be thrown away. Thankfuly, Does It Offend You, Yeah? were good enough to get a second listen and i am impressed. This is DEFINATLY NOT for everyone, and usually i would only listen to this if i was awake at 4 in the morning for other reasons then not being tired, but i know some of you have a few screws loose, so enjoy because like the title of their new cd...You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into...

If Alice In Wonderland was ever remade into a real life film (hopefully that doesn't happen) Portishead would headline the soundtrack and this song The Rip from her new album Third would be the Theme song. This album is such a great departure from her more famous record Dummy, but its been growing on me everyday, and doesnt put you into a sour depressed mood upon completion of track 4. I first learned of her new album after it went viral and somehow the video ended up playing right in front of me in class, but for being a minor fan of trip-hop, Portishead and this song do enough to satisfy my needs until she releases some more work. This album is overly indulgent and extremely complex both in form and in vocals, but i like this one and i'm and idiot.

Spoon have always held their own and have perpetually shown that they are a imaginative and multitalented group. Listening to Gimme Fiction, or moving over to Ga Ga Ga, Spoon have been able to reinvent themselves many times with emotionally charged tones that can lift the spirits of any indie popper. When looking for a guaranteed good remix, i usually tend to look for titles that have groups like the Teenagers, M83, Diplo or Four Tet in the title, but i may have to add Britt to that list. He's put together a couple tracks that could quite possibly crossover his genius to the realm of the dub...The beauty of Feist's Canadian Voice and Interpol (one of my top 5 bands) with Spoon...Enjoy

beats and instruments to create some truly remarkable work. The cynicism and sense of hopelessness conveyed by the simple yet inspirational lyrics, portrays an almost Arcade Fire like sentiment after every rotation on the table.

We all love our remixes, whether its the Walk the Dog around the Block Saturday Mix, or the Dance Remix to Baby One More Time, sometimes remixes just take the best elements of a track and translate that into something equally creative and unique. But if John Tejada butchers another great song my brain will implode (i will never post anything by Tejada, i promise)

Out of Reims, France manage to take lots of polaroids, while also dabbling in a remix here or there. You may have heard some of their remixes with bands like Hard-Fi, Wiley, Primary One and maybe Just A Band. But their New remix of the Mystery Jets' Young Love has been on infinite rotation for the past few weeks. While i can only admit that i enjoy a handful of remixes better then the originals...I think The Shoes won this battle, bar none.

Unless you've been under a rock for the last decade or so, then you know and are an addicted user (to a perverted level) of online social-networking sites like MySpace and Facebook. You may convince yourself that they are useful tools that allow you to communicate with long lost high school friends, let everyone know about your tastes in music and TV and movies, share pictures from parties and let people know how you are feeling by updating your mood. But, we all really know that the only reason you use them is for perverted reasons like stalking, looking for an under age partner (Ryan Mooney) and scrabble. So my goal and the aim of this post is to enlighten your mind and expand your knowledge about a genre of websites that you are already familiar with, but with more useful qualities then scrabble.

I'm going to talk about a few social networking sites over the next week or so, however, these sites focus on one particular topic rather then a broad and gross display of ones self, such as MySpace or Facebook.

These sites look to bring people together on the basis of shared interests. For example, a social networking site based on music that brings people with similar music tastes together, a travel based site that brings Jet Setters together to share their experiences at home and abroad, and other which have similar aims in the realm of business, books, fashion, Crochet and Canada.

Today I'm going to talk about a site that bring people together solely based on musical interest...Last.fm

is a site which connects people on the grounds of musical taste and listening habits. It does this through a number of ways, the first is by tracking what you listen to in itunes through the use of an audioscrobber. The Scrobbler tracks what you listen to then reports that information back to last.fm. Last.fm then makes musical recommendations based on what you listen to and connects you to other users who share the same tastes. The site also has user created groups centered on a particular artist, genre of music, local venues and a multitude of other means to connect and extract musical genius which resides in the deep recesses of your soul. The website also tracks your most listened to artists, songs, albums and also has a bunch of free audio and video content availiable for you to listen and watch on the website, all for LIBRE. For those with Facebook withdrawl, yes, you do get to create your own little profile page, so all individuality is not lost...
